If you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work. Khalil Gibran
Assalamualaikum,
Praised be to Allah that I’m given the time, health and space to pen my thought again parallel to my ultimate aim which is to perform Jihad for Allah’s cause.
Having said that nowadays, with the fuel price incredibly hiking with time, everything needs money. Well, there is a prediction by economists that price hikes will stop at certain point which is called breaking point. But, all I want to state here is that with the economy condition currently terribly going down, everyone thinks about money. Money, money and money. In simple words, our ultimate aim is money.
Actually, I was triggered by my lecturer’s word during his quite engaging lecture this morning regarding the chemical engineers profession. He said:
“Being a chemical engineer, you can work even in offshore, hundreds or even thousands kilometers from the beach. Working there for weeks and then only you can go home. It’s ok. All you want is money isn’t it? You want to buy cars, houses and so on.”
Logically, you won’t get huge rewards without huge sacrifice. You won’t get the reward of heaven in the hereafter if you just sitting comfortably on your seat, doing something against Allah’s will and neglect your entire obligation as Allah’s staunch servant. But let’s refer to the 2nd habit of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People which is ‘begin with the end in mind’. Contextually, money is your end in mind. Well, just think my friends. Does money is all that matters in your life?
OK, maybe it is very difficult to answer. So, absorb this well. As what I stated earlier, huge reward comes with huge sacrifice. Maybe I can continue further. In my context as a future engineer, great pay comes with a great risk. So what you need to ‘pay’ upon receiving the staggering RM10, 000 by the end of every month? Broken marriage, emotional disturbance, sinful life and eventually, your life perhaps. Those are the prices that you need to pay if you put money as your end goal. I want to put a simple question. Does our life worth RM10, 000? You know the answer.
The main thing that I want to put here is about the value of love. Love is priceless. You may have billions of ringgit in your bank account, maids to take care of your household matters, branded attire, luxury houses and cars. But, take this word. MONEY CANNOT BUY LOVE. As a prove, a lot of cases reported in newspaper, a girl comes from rich family can easily fall in love with boy from poor family even though she maybe have known him for only a day. Even only for an hour is also possible. But end up being raped after following the guy to somewhere private. Why? It is because of LOVE. Maybe you say that money can get you a hot wife. But what’s the difference between your wife and prostitute if money is the main tool for getting a wife? Sorry if you feel offended but that’s the reality. True wife acts as a wife because of the value of love not money.
All I want to say here is just live your life with love. Learn something with love. Work with love. Sacrifice with love. But put your love on the right place. The main priority, definitely love for Allah followed by Rasulullah. Then, your mother, mother and mother again. After that only your father. Everyone in your family need to let you go with love so that they are not much feel burdened or stressed by your inexistence.
If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. And if they don't, they never were. Khalil Gibran
With love, every step of yours can be considered as an Ibadah. That makes your sacrifice worth it. Believe me, money cannot pay your sacrifice sufficiently but love did. In the end, LOVE IS ALL THAT MATTERS!
